Homestay

Conditions of Homestay Accommodation

Parents/Guardian/Agent will make arrangements for the homestay funds to be paid in full to the school prior to the students starting class. In the unusual event that homestay payments are in arrears, we will debit the necessary funds from tuition payments resulting in a reduction in available tuition.

1. Each student will have access to a fully furnished room with a desk, lamp and heater. All meals plus a full laundry service will be provided. The student is closely supervised and will have access to help at all times.

2. The cost of internet use and any connection fees incurred on behalf of the student will be paid by the student in addition to the Homestay Fees.

3. The Homestay Fees do not include provision of special foods for health requirements.

4. In the event of incompatibility between host family and student, notice of 2 weeks shall be given to enable both parties to make new arrangements. All efforts shall be made to resolve any problems arising from this situation by the Homestay Coordinator in conjunction with host family / student’s guardian and family before finalising termination of the homestay arrangement.

5. Homestay accommodation cannot be changed without express prior permission from the Homestay Coordinator. The homestay must be a Riccarton High School approved homestay. Notice is at the discretion of the school.

6. If the school requires a student to be placed in temporary accommodation due to disciplinary action by the school or for health, safety and well-being reasons, then the student will be liable for the extra homestay fees incurred.

7. If the Parents/Guardian/Agent terminate this agreement, new homestay accommodation arrangements must be made for the student. The school has the right to reserve homestay board sourced by them only for students attending the school.

8. If the Parents/Guardians/Agent wish to retain the student’s room over term holiday period, the homestay family will refund $100 each week away. A fee of $50 per week must be paid over the Christmas holidays if the student is not residing with the homestay but wishes to retain the room during that period.

9. The hosts will always be informed by the student as to where they expect to be, what time they will be home and an emergency phone number. The student should return home at the time specified by the homestay. The student will always inform the host family if they will be late, or if they do not require an evening meal.

10. Students are not permitted to smoke in their host family’s home.

11. Students are not permitted to stay over at friends Sunday – Thursday nights, or have friends to stay over, unless it is during holiday periods and is agreed by the host.

12. The student must seek permission from the host before inviting friends to their homestay.

13. Friends must obey all homestay rules while visiting hosts.

14. Members of the opposite sex may not be entertained in the student’s bedroom.

15. Students may contribute to light household chores as required.

16. Student will show the host family respect at all times.

17. Students will follow all homestay rules.
