Year 13 - National Certificate Of Edcuational Achievement

year 13

NCEA Level 3

The usual course of study at this level is five subjects. However, some students may study a combination of subjects from Level 1, 2 or 3.

To be eligible to study a full NCEA Level 3 course you will have achieved the required number of Level 2 credits, or have the approval of the Dean and Head of Department. Some testing will be required on entry to Riccarton High School.

English is not a compulsory subject. However, students should be aware of the requirements for English language competency to gain university entrance. That is, 4 credits at NCEA Level 2 or above in Reading, 4 credits at NCEA Level 2 or above in Writing.

The International English Language Test (IELTS) is highly recommended for international students. A score of 6.0 (with no score lower than 5.5) is good preparation for university level study. It is important that international students understand that IELTS is an additional qualification, and cannot be used to cover the English language requirements of university entrance.

High achieving students can have the option of studying for a Scholarship in individual subjects.
