Riccarton High School

Riccarton High School is a decile 7, state co-educational school which caters very well for the academic and social needs of all its students. About 29% of our students were born overseas (from 36 different countries) and we enjoy the multicultural richness that this brings to the school. We are proud of our reputation as a school that serves international students well.

Our roll of around 950 enables us to give all of our students the individual care and attention they deserve so that they have the opportunity to reach their full potential in a caring, people-centered, yet academically rigorous environment.

The Riccarton Way promotes and reinforces a set of values for our students to aspire to. It is central to our concept of the school and its role.

Our qualification results are above the national averages and are a source of pride for the whole school. The academic achievements of our international students have been consistently high and contribute significantly to this proud academic record.

Riccarton High School facilities are second to none. Our spacious park-like grounds (10 hectares) provide excellent recreational sporting and relaxation opportunities for all students. Tree-shaded buildings house excellent classroom facilities.

In recent years a lot of upgrading and renovation of specialist facilities has occurred (Science, Technology, Performing Arts and Gymnasium areas). In addition the Ministry of Education has funded 13 new general or specialist classrooms. Perhaps the most innovative development is the school's partnership with the Christchurch City Council to build a large school/community library at the school.

The school is very well equipped with information technology, and our students enjoy the benefits that this brings to their learning. Riccarton High School is recognised as a school that is at the forefront in enhancing learning through the use of information technology.
