National Certificate of Educational Achievement (Level 2)
Some important facts about NCEA Level 2:

80 credits gain NCEA Level 2 - 60 of these credits must be at Level 2, 20 credits can be carried forward from Level 1

credits may be gained through Achievement Standards or Unit Standards

a full-year course will offer 18 to 24 credits

there are external exams as well as internal assessment

Achievement and Unit Standards will challenge students of all abilities, in all learning areas

results show credits and grades for separate skills and knowledge

8 credits in Level 2 English: 4 in reading, 4 in writing, are required for the University Entrance qualification. These can also be gained through Te Reo Māori.
Students at this level must take:
Five full courses plus two semester courses, or
Six full courses
All Year 12 students must take a course of English or Te Reo Maori:

NOTE:
A minimum of 15 credits in a subject at NCEA Level 1 is an indicator that you may be able to continue that subject at NCEA Level 2.
The prerequisites for each course are outlined in the course descriptions.
Some subjects may require:
a higher number of credits specific Achievement Standards and/or Unit Standards specific levels of attainment in some Achievement Standards the literacy and numeracy requirements of NCEA Level 1
If you do not meet the prerequisites, or if you have not studied the subject at Level 1, you must discuss entry with the Head of Department.
If you have not achieved NCEA Level 1, you must discuss your options with your Dean, Careers Adviser or one of the Guidance Counsellors.
