Whānau Hui – May 2 2018
We welcomed our Māori community to the school for our first whānau hui for the year in the first week of this term.
It was good to see some new faces, and to strengthen and renew connections with parents of our tamariki.
While our senior Māori students entertained the younger ones in the hall, the adults talked about ideas to support our Māori students in their time at school.
Later, Thomas Chin explained the Mana Toroa initiative for our senior Māori students, and Braxton Zaitsev talked about a workshop for Rangatahi she had recently attended.
A representative from the Electoral Commission provided the opportunity for Māori to enrol to vote on the Māori register.
Families had brought food to share, and the discussion around the kai was also very fruitful.
It is always a pleasure to be able to meet with our wider community to discuss ways in which we can best support our akonga.
Another whānau hui will be held later in the year.
