Kirstie’s canteen is proving to be a huge hit!

Riccarton High School’s canteen is under new management and is proving to be a massive success with both staff and students. We thought it was time to introduce the person behind the delicious new menu.

Hi, my name’s Kirstie, and at the beginning of term 2, I started running the school canteen. I come with 9 years’ experience running the Burnside High School canteen, and a further year working with the lunch in schools programme.

I have a food philosophy of feeding our children nutritional home-made meals that taste good. Most things you will find in my canteen will be made by me, and I pride myself on creating a menu that suits the tastes of our students – so I intend to work with the student committee to continually develop my menu.

At the moment, I’m providing nachos (beef and vegetarian), macaroni and cheese, butter chicken, fried rice and lasagne – and the menu is often changing. I make my own cheese scones, muffins, slices and sandwiches every day.

I also do provide gluten free items – and some of the meal options can be pre-ordered to be gluten free.

I welcome any feedback or suggestions of what you would like to see on the menu – if we all work together I believe we can create a great menu.

As we are all aware food costs are high, but I absolutely will be doing my best to keep the prices reasonable whilst remaining yummy!

With winter coming, if your kids are looking for something quick and warm in the mornings: I do 2 hash browns and a hot chocolate for $5, from 7.45 – 8.15am each morning.

If you have any questions about the food, or any suggestions, you can email me at canteen@riccarton.school.nz
