Following the Christchurch Mosque shootings on 15 March 2019, Muslim Wellbeing Otautahi was setup under the umbrella of Purapura Whetu.
Initially the service was set up to respond to the immediate high clinical needs of those directly impacted by the tragedy.
Since the incident, however, the service has evolved and grown to support the wider Muslim community around broader wellbeing areas. The services provided include support for parents, children or any whanau members who may need assistance in areas where there may be conflicting views/understanding or beliefs of the ethnic minority/ Islamic values involved.
