Taupaepae | Reception
Our reception is located at the front of our admin block – and easiest to access from Vicki Street. During school hours, all visitors must sign in here before going on to meet staff/students in the school.
Te Kete Wānanga o Pūtaringamotu | Library
Our library is an innovative joint venture with the Christchurch City Council. This gives our students access to a huge library resource – all the benefits of a school library and city council library in one
Toi Whakaaturangi | Performing Arts
Our drama theatre, music rooms and dance studio are found in P block. There are amazing options for performing arts as both a subject and as extra-curricular activities at Riccarton.
Our social sciences department is located downstairs in G block and the English department is located upstairs
Whakakori Tinana | Gymnasium
Riccarton has two gyms – Gainsford and McHarg – used for phys ed as well as sports. This block also houses a weights room and gym classroom.
Kāpunipuni | Hall
Used for school assemblies & performances, and often hired by the local community for various activities.
Tāwāhi | International
Our international department hosts students from around the world, who get to experience all that Riccarton High School and Christchurch have to offer.
Our Kohanga Ako provides classes for students with special education needs, where they are taught school subjects along with social and independent living skills.
Ngā Reo | Languages
Riccarton offers Te Reo Māori, French, and Japanese as subjects. L block also houses our ESOL and Pasifika Studies department.
Putāiao | Science
Our science block contains our biology, chemistry and physics labs, and both junior and senior science are taught in this block
Art & Learning Support
Our junior and senior art and visual art classes are held in B Block.
Learning Support additional support for students in the classroom – such as assessment, reader/writers for subjects or exams, extra tuition.
Our staffroom is located at the back of the admin block. As well as being a place for our staff to enjoy their breaks, it is used for staff meetings and parent information evenings are often held in here. It can also be hired by community groups for small meetings.
Hangarau | Technology
This area has our food technology, hard materials, DVC, textiles and digital technology classrooms.
Our whare is temporarily located in L block while our redevelopment takes place. A new, purpose-built whare will be constructed in 2024.
